Coming Apart

Every loss

Is like a little death.

Each change or modification,

Means that something familiar

Is going away forever

While something strange and new

Has come to takes its place.

Over time

These minor meetings and partings

Collect themselves within

Every human being

Reminding us that

The world is in

A constant state of living and dying.

Ultimately,

We are the sum total

In this endless cycle of entropy and order

Until we too

Take part in our own, subtle passing

Fading far away from a world

That barely noticed we were gone.
